ominous blue light
In the current Swiss newspaper magazine No. 62/09 I found a very informative article on the biology of light. After reading it I understood much better why are artificial light, and especially so-called full-spectrum, warm white, daylight or fluorescent organic so harmful to our bodies and especially natural for our eyes.
Our traditional incandescent lamp emits a spectrum of natural light and thus is similar to sunlight. Their light is characterized by a balanced measure of the proportions of visible light, it is a so called full-spectrum light.
Completely different is the contrast with the so-called fluorescent lamps, which include all the above-saving light bulbs. Its light spectrum consists primarily of isolated spikes of excessive individual frequencies of light. "So what?", You might ask, "if it is energy efficient because" ...
Apart from the fact that save the so-called energy saving bulbs no energy, since they represent because of their mercury content of waste and it also the high production and disposal costs in a kind of glamorized "garbage males accounting" purposes, I suddenly realized that light is indeed a form of food - not just for our eyes, but for our entire organism. Through years of polemics against the mass media, natural sunlight, we have completely lost sight of what we actually do to us with the "wrong" Sunlight!
The journal article is based largely on research by the German physician and scientist Dr. Light Alexander Wunsch, Heidelberg, whose website I highly recommend it. One can there not only a wealth of very informative articles to download, but there also sign the petition to preserve the light bulb online. The petition in urgent need of additional signatories!
The most important thing about "Light biology" as follows:
The day-night cycle controls vital hormonal control processes in our body and is light dependent. The pituitary gland (pituitary) produces stress hormones during the day, while the pineal gland (epiphysis), including the relaxation or dark hormone melatonin pours.
Only in 2002, a third photoreceptor was discovered on the retina of the eye. This measures the brightness of the light and is reacting to its blue component. By measuring the blue component are the receptors determined indirectly, whether much or little ultraviolet light is present, whether that is "more" tag, or even "more" night.
All fluorescent lamps, including all energy-saving light bulbs and computer screens have a much too high proportion of blue light and interfere with our hormone systems, because it stresses us when we are exposed to light this long and frequently, the problem is. The "tricked out" eye takes in fact, that is just day and the body in stress mode to go, while we, for example, just a PC and an energy-saving lamp on the desk in the evening quickly accounting for the office do ...
Physicians therefore also speak of "hormone-permeable artificial light" and type "blue light alarm". The conventional incandescent light, however little confusing our hormone.
The list of negative effects of blue light is startling:
- the pituitary gland pours out stress hormones, excessive
- the Entspannuns or dark hormone melatonin (important for the regeneration of the body) is suppressed
- intense blue light can "burn" the Netzthaut and
- also suppresses the self-regeneration of the eye, because the receptor cells of the retina can be damaged by oxidation, according to Alexander request.
- this may accelerate the age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Signs of macular degeneration supposedly shows today, one in three people over 65 years.
What is the macula? It is called the yellow spot, a 1.5 mm large area of the retina. This area contains the most important sensory cells of the eye and allows, for example, that you - right now - can see clearly.
The supersaturated with aggressive artificial light blue now strained the filter pigment in the eye more than the natural level beyond what can lead to death of the sensory cells.
And the light bulb "Hundreds of scientific studies ... show that long-wavelength infrared light, which emits the light bulb to a large extent, clearly strengthens the resilience and self-healing in the sensory cells."? (Magazine page 43). And therefore they must be banned!
But not enough: fluorescent lamps, energy saving lamps, flat LCD / LED TVs and LCD computer displays use mercury. They operate on the principle of the mercury vapor discharge lamps. (Mercury atoms are offset by current in an increased state of charge, resulting in the fluorescent light emission =).
What does this mean for our eyes? Request stated in the magazine interview that the blue mercury light excites not only the production of the age pigment lipofuscin in the eye, but the mercury, which might dormant in our bodies (Amalgam!) were "awake tickles" and (enable) bring to the chemical reaction can !
As a solution to this dilemma, he suggests either before or standard light bulb with DC-powered low-voltage halogen lamps.
For me, the obvious question of how to deal with this information. Finally, I sit by "professionally" several hours a day on a PC with a shimmering blue screen that gives me eye problems.
The magazine points out color tinted screen special glasses that filter out the blue light and the hazardous mercury signature of 436 nanometers. The glasses are tinted yellow or orange. The Classic version of Office provides to the manufacturer's virtually 100% protection from blue light radiation and mercury, as well as the lowering of the dark hormone melatonin. Next, there is also a "lighter" version of these goggles, which are more suitable for TV viewing (same price). In addition, for the same glasses as eyeglasses intent. I think I will define me as a pair of glasses, hats for my eyesight, I like my eyeball ...
Finally, once the author wishes to ban incandescent bulbs: "The clearest signal that we could put citizens is quite simple: Denies the purchase of energy-saving light bulbs - no matter what."
PS: At this point I will report in about a month once from my experience with the filter glasses ...
