"Europe sees the disaster in Syria without doing anything." That was the headline in the GA Bonn. Really? The EU helpless and idle?
"The basic sense is no longer able to say why these brutalities in Syria must go further," said Luxembourg Foreign Minister Asselborn.
Sure, the basic sense is unevenly distributed, yet politicians should have better information facilities as average citizens, especially more time to supply their basic human mind with elementary facts.
At yesterday's EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels there were still some shifts: Not at Madam Ashton: "The future of the country with Assad there will not be" set apart the Lady for the umpteenth time, even though the country does not fall within their remit and they thus only strengthens those back, set the preconditions for negotiations.
That Assad is firmly seated in the saddle, is now seen in Brussels anyway, it's too obvious, and that the EU sanctions have brought nothing - except suffering for the population.
Foreign Minister Westerwelle has therefore proposed a radical change of course, what you think in Brussels now: An easing of sanctions "infrastructure, water, electricity, health care, which is something we must not lose focus on" The EU should therefore sanctions.. loosen and leave again technical equipment in the country, so that the infrastructure can be rebuilt.
These are new messages and one can only hope that Guidos line will prevail.
On the other hand, it leaves it but a necessary logic of the elementary sense hardly recognize:
So published the Croatian newspaper "Jutarnji List" recently a report that addressed a huge shipment of arms of the EU and NATO member Croatia to Syria: The deal had been agreed between Washington and Croatian Foreign Minister Josko Paro in Washington last year. Paro appeared when I googled him, first in the network of the AJC (American Jewish Congress) on.
3000 tons of weapons had been transferred from Zagreb International Airport at 75 flights from November 2012 with the help of Cargo Liners Turkey to Jordan and from there to Syria. In this way, the EU sanctions was not formally broken, although EU member Croatia was for months the hub for arms shipments to Syria.
In this respect appear Westerwelle calls, rebuild the infrastructure, honorable, but they fail to recognize the actual situation: Especially as the Syrian infrastructure, the preferred target of attacks by "rebels": power lines, pipelines, telephone exchanges, water power plants, dams, etc.
Westerwelle's clichéd condemnation of the recent Scud operations by the Syrian army as a "serious war crimes against his own people" also lack the expertise. Not even the "New York Times" or the British "Guardian" say more, Assad had they used "against his own people". It has recently been reported something truthful that it "hotbeds" should be taken by "rebels".
The common assertion of the media, the EU is far remained passively does not correspond to the facts, even of "powerlessness" can hardly be spoken, rather from a lack of elementarstem sense.
The demand of the hour should be: stop all arms sales to Syria immediately cancel all penalties, all ready to negotiate the opposition immediately to the negotiating table. (The Syrian government is known to even the armed opposition on the door.)
That the United States must stop as soon as possible, train rebels in Jordan , goes without saying. Whether Guido should have the cojones to demand this from its U.S. counterparts? Unlikely.
And so this whole EU-talk really contradict elementarstem sense!
