On 02/03/2007 Amy Goodman led by "Democracy Now", an independent U.S. news channel, an interview with the American four-star general Wesley Clark, the 34 years was for the U.S. Department of Defense. In addition, he was also from 1997 to 2000 Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO.
Clark has retained a degree of independence in judgment, among other things he was against the Iraq war.
Clark reported in Goodman as follows:
"About ten days after 9/11, I went through the Pentagon and I saw Prime Minister and his deputy Wolfowitz, Rumsfield. I went downstairs to tell just a few people from the Joint Staff hello, who had worked for me.
And one of the generals called me and said:
You must come in time, I must speak briefly with you. '
I said, we are too busy. '
He said, 'No, no, we have made the decision to wage war against Iraq. "
This was on or around 20 September [2001] around.
I said, 'Why we are lead to the Iraq war?
He said, 'I do not know'. He said, 'I guess they have nothing else to do'.
I said, 'Well, they have information to bring Saddam to Al Qaeda-related'?
He said, 'No, there is nothing new in this article you have just made the decision to wage war against Iraq. I think they do not know what to do about the terrorists, but we have a good army and we can turn governments. ' He said, 'I guess if the only tool is a hammer, every problem has to look like a nail'. (more ...)
